WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT INGFEZ MEDINA 4-HOUR GUIDED WALKING TOUR
Explore the heart of the old medina - the uniqueness of Fes does not come out of the blue but from a rich cultural heritage. Even if it is no longer the political capital as it is used to be, it is still the enlightening cultural and spiritual center of the kingdom. In this imperial city you find the world's oldest university namely Al-Qarawiyyin founded by Fatima Al-Fihriya in 859. The UNESCO also claims that it is indeed the oldest subsisting and continually functioning educational institution in the world.
See the fountains including the Nejjarine Fountain, the Medersas (Koranic schools) founded as early as the 13th century. The Batha Palace is now a museum of arts and Moroccan traditions. Next, the Chouwara tanneries, the Souks including Souk Attarine, one of the liveliest in the city. After, see Bab Boujloud with its green and blue ceramics.
Tanners’ District: One of the main attractions of Fes, the tanners’ quarters is where leather is produced using the same centuries-old methods. You can get a bird’s eye view from the raised platform and watch the entire process. El-Attarine Madrasa or the Medersa Attarine: Visit Fes’s most popular attraction, the El-Attarine Madrasa in the heart of the city, built in 1325. See the fine examples of Merenid craftsmanship around the madrasa, especially the stucco and cedar wood carvings on the ceiling. Karaouine Mosque: One of the biggest religious structure in Morocco, this mosque lies in the heart of the medina. The university attached to the mosque has been the centre of Islamic learning in Morocco for more than 1000 years.
Then you will walk through the main gate of the Royal Palace which is intricately designed and stunning with bronze and mosaic . The last stop is a lookout point that allows for great panoramic shots of the city from both the southern and the northern fortress which was built in the late 16th century by the Saadians. Conclude your tour back in it's starting point.
NOTE : The day trip from Fes is available every day.
